So, exactly how much water should you drink each day? At least eight 8-ounce glasses of water is what’s recommended by Houston physicians for a healthy immune system. Besides boosting your immune system find out what other benefits drinking water has for your body:

  • While helping to maintain an ideal body weight, it can also increase metabolism and help control appetite.
  • The most common cause of daytime exhaustion is dehydration. To increase your energy levels increase your water intake.

Exercise: Those who exercise and sweat regularly will need to drink more water to make up for the loss of fluid. For short exercise regimes, an extra 1.5 to 2.5 cups of water should be good enough. But if you are working out for more than an hour then you’ll want to drink considerably more.

Climate: Hot weather increases your chances of sweating. This ultimately means more water consumption.

Illness: If you are sick and dealing with issues such as fever or vomiting, you’re losing a lot of fluids. Again, this means increasing your fluid intake. The same goes for diseases like a bladder or kidney infection.

Pregnancy: Women who are pregnant should consume 2/3 gallon of fluids each day. Breastfeeding women should consume about ¾ gallon of fluids each day.
